What is MasterDigital?
MasterDigital is a provider of Local and Long Distance calling in the USA, Canada, as well as select International destinations. MasterDigital utilizes is a very simple technology, but it is also powerful as you will see. MasterDigital replaces your traditional phone with a broadband phone that utilizes your pre-existing internet to make and receive calls and that will save you more money than a conventional telephone.

What is VoIP?
VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) is a great new way to make and receive calls using your broadband Internet connection instead of your standard phone line. MasterDigital converts your phone calls into data that zips through your high-speed Internet connection just like e-mail. It comes out the other end just like a regular phone call. Your callers will never know that it is any different since it sounds like a regular phone call.

How Reliable is VoIP?
VoIP is as reliable as the Internet Provider you already depend on. When your Internet connection is working our service is also working. You will be able to make calls any time and from any place you have access to a cable or DSL connection. Our network was created with enough capacity to cater to upsurges in demand and as the service load increase the network makes more guaranteed capacity available.

What are the Advantages of VoIP over POTS (Plain Old Telephone System)?
Cost! The main advantage of MasterDigital is the savings you with see, especially when you take into account International calling and Long Distance. In addition, we offer many digital features not normally available on the normal telephone system.

Are calls made on a MasterDigital line secure?
A conversation on a MasterDigital line is actually more secure than one over an ordinary phone line! A VoIP conversation is broken up into pieces called packets. These packets are sent over the Internet and reassembled when they reach your party. Packets contain no meaningful identifiers in them. Your account information, for example, is not transmitted in these packets. The packets do not necessarily take the same path over the Internet, and will travel only to the intended location (caller’s party). This means that someone can’t simply tap into your conversation, or redirect your packets somewhere else.

Who regulates VoIP services?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC): has worked to create an environment promoting competition and innovation to benefit consumers. Historically, the FCC has not regulated the Internet or the services provided over it. On February 12, 2004, the FCC found that an entirely Internet-based VoIP service was an unregulated information service. On the same day, the FCC began a broader proceeding to examine what its role should be in this new environment of increased consumer choice and what it can best do to meet its role of safeguarding the public interest. In November 2004 they ruled that States do not have the jurisdiction to impose taxes on VoIP services, another victory for the consumer.

Is Internet service included with MasterDigital Plans?
Currently MasterDigital does not provide Internet, but we do recommend that you go to this helpful page in order to find the right ISP for you. http://reviews.cnet.com/Internet_access/2001-6536_7-0.html?tag=ont.int

Can MasterDigital make and receive calls to/from PSTN/POTS lines?
Yes! MasterDigital users can definitely make and receive calls to/from traditional phone lines.

Can I use my current telephone with your Service?
Yes. MasterDigital works with most phones designed for residential use, as long as they’re connected to the MasterDigital phone adaptor we provide for you.

Will I be able to have MasterDigital on all of the phones in my home?
Yes. There are several ways to use multiple phones with your MasterDigital Internet Phone adapter. 1. Cordless Phone System: A system that uses a base unit and additional, or extra, handsets is an easy option. The “base station” of the cordless phone plugs directly into your Internet Phone Adapter’s Phone 1 jack. You can then place the extra handsets wherever you desire. Popular manufacturers of these cordless phone systems include Uniden, Motorola, and V-Tech (plus many others).
2. Multiple Jack Extension Connector: Connect it to phone 1 jack of the Internet Phone Adapter. Then plug each of your phones into the multiple jack extension. (available at most electronics stores such as Radio Shack)
3. Wireless Phone Jacks: Wireless phone jack converts an existing electrical socket into a phone outlet without having to run any phone wires. Plug the “base unit” into your Phone Adapter and then place an extension jack anywhere you would like to have a phone. Many wireless phone jacks have built-in surge protection and allow for as many phone extensions as you require.

May I keep my Existing Phone Number when migrating to MasterDigital?
Yes. A Letter of Agency (LOA) is required when transferring your existing number over to our service. The LOA must be signed by the party whose name is on their existing service. Do not contact your carrier to disconnect your service during the number transfer process. You will be disconnected when your phone number is transitioned to MasterDigital. The transfer process takes a minimum of 20 business days upon receipt of complete and correct paperwork. MasterDigital will keep you informed of the transfer process via email along the way.

Do I have to cancel my local phone service to use MasterDigital?
In order for MasterDigital to transfer (port) your number, your phone number must remain active with your local carrier. When you transfer your phone number, your current provider will cancel the service automatically. In fact, if you put in an order to cancel your service your current provider will deny MasterDigital's request to transfer the number. If your phone number is not active, you do not retain control over the number. This is why MasterDigital cannot transfer a number that has been disconnected, cancelled, or is not actively assigned to a customers account.
